Principal Investigator for PELCI and Research Assistant Professor at Trinity College Dublin’s Centre for Health Policy and Management (CHPM). Dr May is an economist focusing on care for serious and complex medical illness, including palliative and end-of-life care. As well as original research studies in Ireland to inform policymakers at the Department of Health and HSE, Dr May collaborates widely in Europe, the United States and Canada. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and national reports; is co-convener of the palliative and end-of-life research group at the International Health Economics Association (iHEA); and is a regular invited speaker at international conferences. His principal contributions relate to treatment effect heterogeneity, and advancing understanding of how better decision-making in policy and practice can improve end-of-life experience.
